LOP 72 Rossan Point

Rossan Point The lookout post no.62 is situated on a hilltop close to Malin More. From here the cost watcher observed the Atlantic shore from the Malin Bay up to the Glen Bay and reported all activities around that area in their logbooks. The reports are open for public today at the Irish Defence Forces website militaryarchives.ie. For this light projection a letter from a passenger of the SS Athenia was adapted to the building. The letter describes the memories while the ship was torpedoed by the German submarine in the North Atlantic in September 1939. The SS Athenia was the first UK ship to be sunk by Germany in the ww2. 117 civilian passengers and the crew were killed by the attack.
