LOP 72 Rossan Point

Rossan Point   Lookout post No. 62 is to be located on a hill close to Malin More. From here, the coastguard observed the Atlantic coast from Malin Bay to Glen Bay and recorded all activities in the area in his logbooks. The reports are now publicly available on the Irish Defence Forces website militaryarchives.ie.
For this light projection, a letter from a passenger on the SS Athenia was adapted to the building. The letter describes memories of the moment when the ship was torpedoed by a German submarine in the North Atlantic in September 1939. The SS Athenia was the first British ship to be sunk by Germany during the Second World War. The attack claimed the lives of 117 civilian passengers and the crew.
