Blacksod Bay The lookout post No. 60 is located at the southern end of Bellmulet Island close to Backsode. Today, only fragments of the side walls remain of the building. From Blacksode Lighthouse, lighthouse keeper Ted Sweeney reported the weather forecast for the planned Allied landing in Normandy on D-Day in 1944. Sweeney also served as a non-commissioned officer for the local coast watch service at this post.
