Moyteogue Head At the western end of Achill Island, an old British observation post was used by coast guards during the Second World War. The post was originally built during the First World War. From here, the coast watchers reported all activity in the area in their logbooks. The books are now available to the public on the Irish Defence Forces website militaryarchives.ie. Today, some signatures of coastguards can be found carved into the concrete. The names of T. O'Malley and P. Callaghan are still visible on the back of the building.
