Black Head This lookout post was probably located close to Black Head Lighthouse in the Burren region of County Clare. Today, the outlines of a concrete foundation can be seen, which could indicate the position of the former lookout post No. 48.
From here, the coast watchers had a view across the southern Galway Bay to the Aran Islands. During their observations, they wrote reports on activities on the water and in the air in logbooks. The logbooks are now available to the public on the Irish Defence Forces website militaryarchives.ie. Close to the former lookout post, half a mile towards Murroughkelly, a huge Eire sign written in stones on the ground can still be seen today.
