LOP 4 Cardys Rock

Cardys Rock  The lookout post No. 4 was located near Balbriggan in the northern part of Fingal. Today, all that remains of the former post are the concrete foundations with their characteristic hexagonal shape and a few parts of the chimney and roof visible beneath the grass. The associated EIRE sign was probably washed into the sea by coastal erosion.
The lookout post got its name from a group of rocky outcrops located about half a mile off the coast of Bremore Point. During the Second World War, the coastguard observed the coast from here and recorded all military activities in logbooks. These logbooks are now publicly available and can be viewed on the Irish Defence Forces website militaryarchives.ie.
