Ballagan Point The lookout post is located on a low hill above the coast road in a walled courtyard of a former coastguard station. The site is close to the border with Northern Ireland and was the northernmost post on the east coast of the Republic of Ireland. This post was given registration number No. 1 in a clockwise counting system of eighty-three coastguard posts in the Republic of Ireland. This registration number gave, among other things, the inspiration for the light projection at this observation post.
