Fanad Head
Lookout post no. 79 is located near Fanad Lighthouse. The building was originally an English coast guard station which was used for a short time by the Irish Defence Forces Coast Watching Service. The building is much larger than the lookout posts built by the coast guard during World War II and has only five windows. The corresponding Eire sign is located 500 metres west of the lookout post. From the air, you can see the number 9 and parts of the frame that once surrounded the letters Eire.
A picture simulation shows the original ground markings. These have either been largely removed or washed away by storms.
