Fanad Head
The lookout post No. 79 is located close to Fanad Lighthouse. This building was originally an English coastguard station, which was used for a short time by the Irish Defence Forces Coast Watching Service as an observation post.
The associated Eire sign is to be located in a field 500 metres west of the lookout post. Today, most of the ground markers have disappeared. From the air, you can still see the number 9 and parts of the frame that once framed the letters ‘Eire’.
A picture simulation shows the position of the former Eire sign.
