LOP 34 Bolus Head & Eire Sign

Bolus Head

Near the ruins of the old barracks at Bolus Head in Kerry is the well-preserved lookout post No. 34. The barracks were built during the Napoleonic Wars to monitor the Irish coast. The associated Eire sign is located approximately 100 metres south of the lookout post and is now overgrown with tall grass. In winter, rock formations emerge that reveal some of the numbers. The exact position was determined from earlier aerial photographs.

An image simulation showed the position of the ground marking, which is now overgrown.
