Ballagan Point
East of Dundalk in County Louth, lookout post No. 1 is located near Whitestown. The building is situated on a low hill above the coastal road in the walled courtyard of a former coastguard station. The site is close to the border with Northern Ireland and was the northernmost post on the east coast of the Republic of Ireland. From here, the registration numbers of other posts were marked in ascending order around the Republic of Ireland. Approximately half a mile to the south-west, the corresponding EIRE sign was reportedly located in a field. Today, the exact position of the ground marking can no longer be clearly identified.
